Chenango is a place for both indoor and outdoor recreation and provides four seasons worth of action and entertainment for the very active to the most passive. The area offers endless miles of hiking options, several area lakes and streams, area parks, and campgrounds. Popular outdoor activities include snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, canoeing, swimming, and cross-country skiing.

In addition, we are privileged to have five 18-hole golf courses (two of which are PGA-quality) as well as three other 9-hole courses. The Norwich Family YMCA touts a wide variety of indoor recreation such as a six-lane pool, jogging track, kid's gym, fitness studios, racquetball and basketball courts.

The nightlife selection is varied and offers entertainment alternatives that might include listening to a blues or folk bank in a local pub, musical, theatrical and dance performances. Historical museums abound throughout the County and The Northeast Classic Car Museum is open allyear around and, is home of the world's largest collection of Franklin Luxury cars, and home of the Staley collection. There are many specialty and unique gift stores as well as galleries and antique shops in the area to find artwork or one-of-akind gift. Antique shops pride themselves in having a myriad of furnishings and collectibles for the avid shopper. From pottery and custom-made jewelry to handmade Christmas ornaments and handcrafted furniture, you'll find what you're looking for. Hard cider, fruit wine, maple syrup, honey, herbs, fruit, alpaca clothing, Black Angus beef, and pumpkins are just some of the local products available for purchase.

Chenango County plays host to numerous annual events and festivals drawing thousands of spectators, and growing with each passing year. Each community also hosts its own band concerts, pageants, fairs, fund-raisers, music festivals, and antique craft shows. Did you know that…
Chenango County has more designated state land than any other county (other than the Adirondacks) for great winter activities such as snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing? The city of Norwich in Chenango County is the original home of Pepto-Bismol and Chloraseptic? Baron's Inn, in Greene, has been reported to be haunted? David Maydole was a Norwich blacksmith who first discovered a way to keep hammer heads from flying off their handles? His company, located here in Chenango County in the 1860's, would eventually become the largest hammer manufacturer in the nation.

That Gail Borden, a native of Norwich, received a patent in 1856, for condensing milk by boiling and evaporating it in a closed container? The Borden Company would later grow into an international dairy, food, chemical and packaging conglomerate. Borden's condensed milk is still sold today.
